Power of ERDC: Additive Construction Technology
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center
Oct. 7, 2019 | 2:58
Current construction methods can be resource and labor intensive, which impacts efficiency. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is revolutionizing this process through work being done at its Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) in Champaign, Illinois. Engineers and scientists have developed a new 3D printer capable of outputting concrete to build houses and other structures. The additive construction technology is also serving the Warfighter by reducing the logistical and manpower burden to support infrastructure in the field. On a recent visit to CERL, ERDC Director Dr. David Pittman spoke to mechanical engineer Megan Kreiger about her contributions to this innovation.
