BLUF: As of Dec. 1, 2024, the supply classification for the KGV-72 programmable in-line encryption device will change from Class VII to Class II.

Heads up, Soldiers! An upcoming change in supply classification for the KGV-72 programmable in-line encryption device, NSN 5810-01-564-3364 and LIN E05008, means it will change from a Class VII item to a Class II non-expendable item.
The change will be effective on Dec. 1, 2024.
As a result of the supply classification change, KGV-72s will be ordered through the standard Army supply system. KGV-72s will no longer be ordered using the sustainment/direct exchange (DX) program and will no longer be eligible for turn-in to the forward repair activity (FRA) sites in Korea and Germany.
The following also applies:
- Units must have funding available to requisition KGV-72s after the transition.
- Complete turn-ins using GCSS-Army and physically turn in KGV-72s to the supply support activities (SSAs).
- Because this equipment will be the unit’s responsibility after the supply classification change, Financial Liability Investigation of Property Losses (FLIPLs) for broken locks will no longer be a requirement.
December 1, 2024, may seem like a long way off, but it’ll be here before you know it. And since units must use their own funding, the lengthy lead time gives you time to budget for future procurements.
