WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Lt. Gen. Robert Harter, chief of Army Reserve and commanding general, U.S. Army Reserve Command, hosted allied army reserve senior leaders at the Pentagon on March 25. Brigadier Jaish Mahan ADC VR, Deputy Commander Reserves (U.K.), Major General John Kendall VR, Deputy Commander Field Army (U.K.), and Brigadier General Shawn Bindon CD, Director of Reserve Forces Strategic Initiatives and Deputy Chief Reserves (Canada) met with Harter to discuss ways to more effectively build and rapidly deploy combat ready formations at scale to meet global requirements for crisis and conflict.
“This engagement was a great opportunity to highlight the imperative to achieve peace through strength,” said Harter. “As an essential warfighting capability for the Total Army and the Joint Force, the Army Reserve must remain prepared to seamlessly conduct combat operations with our allies and partners around the world.”
The engagement coincided with the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s annual Military Reserve Exchange Program (MREP) planning event in Washington, D.C. The event brought together all Service reserve components, along with representatives from MREP partner countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. Representatives from prospective partner nations — Canada, Poland, France, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands—also attended. The MREP strengthens warfighter and unit readiness for mobilization in support of large-scale combat operations through reciprocal participation in relevant training and exercises.
