On 8 May 2015, US Customs and Border Protection elements responded to an early morning 911 call. Members of the Office of Air and Marine (OAM), Tucson Branch as well as members of the US Border Patrol Tucson Sector BORSTAR worked together to locate and rescue a non-U.S. person in the desert near the Baboquivari mountains in Arizona. Border Patrol agents traveled on foot into a remote area of the desert and assisted their aviator partners to extract the man who then delivered him to civilian emergency medical services. The aircraft used in the operation was a Blackhawk "L-model" outfitted with a special rescue hoist. Rescues in the desert are highly technical and dangerous to perform, and the brave men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection stand ready to perform their duties with integrity and honor.
