Narration:
The U. S. Army Garrison Japan change of command ceremony between outgoing Commander Col. William Johnson and incoming Commander Col. Phillip Gage was held July 21st at Camp Zama. A number of people from both on and off the installation attended the ceremony, including Sagamihara City, Mayor Toshio Kayama, Zama City Mayor, Mikio Endo, Zama Chuton-chi Commander, COL Makoto Toyoda, as well as representatives from local communities. COL Johnson completed a two-year assignment at U.S. Army Garrison Japan and will move to become deputy director for U.S. Army Installation Management Command Pacific in Hawaii.

During the ceremony, the U.S. Army Garrison Japan flag was passed from Dr. Altendorf, Director of IMCOM Pacific to COL Gage, signifying his change of command.

COL Gage began his military career at 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado. Since then, he has been assigned to numerous leadership positions in various locations. He once served as an Infantry Battalion Advisor for the Saudi Arabian National Guard and his previous assignment was Headquarters, Resolute Support, Afghanistan as the Senior Advisor to the Chief of the General Staff, Afghan National Army.
