Bailey Bridge reopening and ribbon cutting ceremony
Fort Wainwright Public Affairs Office
Sept. 18, 2020 | 1:16
Today, Fort Wainwright marked the completion of the Bailey Bridge repair-by-replacement construction project with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers certified the bridge safe and it is now open to the public.
Opening of the improved bridge restores easier access for the residents of Secluded Acres and for troop access to facilities and training areas across the Chena River.
“It’s been a long road since this initiative began, but we are privileged to stand here today to celebrate the reopening of the Bailey Bridge,” said Col. Christopher J. Ruga, U.S. Army Garrison Alaska commander.
The U.S. Army Garrison Alaska Directorate of Public Works team, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and prime contractor STG Pacific provided technical expertise and oversight of the project, managing unexpected challenges due to COVID-19 impacts throughout this year.
