Highlights from the sitting volleyball finals competition at the Department of Defense Warrior Games 2018, June 8, 2018. The Warrior Games, taking place June 1-9, 2018, at the U.S. Air Force Academy, are a Paralympic-style series of events for wounded, ill and injured service members from all U.S. branches of service and this year include teams from the United Kingdom Armed Forces, Australian Defence Force and Canadian Armed Forces. The court is rectangular and measures 10 meters X 6 meters

The net height is approx 3.5 feet off the ground

A player can use any part of their body to get the ball over the net (feet, legs, hands, arms, head, etc)

Notables: Navy's Mario Ingram (#21) was also involved in Track & Field and captured a Gold Medal in the Men's 4 x 100 Sprint Relay, will play for a Gold Medal in Wheelchair Basketball & competed in Powerlifting

Bill Lickman of team Air Force (#96) won 2 Track & Field Gold Medals in the men's 100m & 200m sprints. Yesterday he competed in the pistol shooting competition and scored a 315 while earlier this morning he scored a 394.3 in the Prone Rifle Competition

Brent Sixkiller (#29) of Army scored 334 and won a Silver Medal for Army in the Pistol Shooting Competition. In the Prone Rifle Competition, Sixkiller shot a 403.0

****BRONZE MEDAL MATCH (3) ARMY vs (4) SOCOM****

GAME 1: The first game of the Sitting Volleyball Finals was ARMY versus SOCOM playing for the BRONZE Medal. In a fast-paced affair, scoring was back-and-forth until Army began to pull away from Special Ops Command and won Game One 25-17.

GAME 2: The second game of the Bronze Medal Match saw Army going on a 4-0 run before SOCOM scored. Army reeled off a quick 3 more points making it 7-1. SOCOM called a timeout and got a point when Army hit it out of bounds and then went on a 5-0 run of their own making the score 7-6. Timeout Army and it worked. The team in black scored 5 in a row making it 12-7. The tide turned again after SOCOM'S timeout as they ripped a 5-0 run tying the score at 12. Timeout Army. SOCOM scored the next 3 points, taking their first lead of the game and increased it to 15-12. Army battled back making it 16-15 Special Ops. The two teams fought down the stretch, both scoring point for point when the score was tied at 20 all. Timeout SOCOM. Afterwards, Army scored first and Special Ops tied them, 21-21. The fight continued as Army got it to match point 24-23 and got the win and the match. Army is your 2018 Warrior Games Bronze Medal winners in Sitting Volleyball.

GAME 1: The host team from Air Force entered the Gold Medal match as the number one overall seed. They were taking on the number two seed from Navy. Things got off to a hot start in Game One as both teams scored early and often. It was 6-6 when Navy scored 5-straight forcing the hosts to take a timeout at 11-6, Midshipmen. Navy maintained their 5-point lead at 17-12. Navy then got the game to match point at 24-17 and get the most crucial of points and they get the win. Navy takes Game One 25-17.

GAME 2: Navy came out firing as the first get the ace and then the mighty slam spike making it a quick 2-0. Team Air Force fought back to tie the game at 3 all and they kept it rolling as USAF took their first lead 4-3. Navy reeled off 4 in a row making it 7-4 when Bill Lickman took control, demonstrating his service skills scoring 3 for Air Force tying the score at 7. After some back-and-forth scoring, Air Force took a 2-point lead at 13-11 when they got a close call on an out of bounds play and the subsequent point stretching their lead to 15-11. Navy kept fighting and first cut the lead to 2, then 1, and then they tied it at 15 all when Air Force was forced to take a time out. After the T.O. both teams traded points but it was the host team pulling away, 20-17. Navy then scored 3 in a row tying the score at 20. Both teams scored, 21-21 and each team scored again 22-22. Navy held serve and scored 23-22 when USAF tied it again. It was match point for Air Force 24-23 but Navy tied it again 24-24. Navy got the next one giving them match point at 25-24 and they held the serve. After a good volley Navy got the point, the game and match with 26-24 win. Navy takes Gold in Sitting Volleyball.
