The Air Force Research Laboratory's 711th Human Performance Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is using cutting-edge research and technology to better understand unexplained physiological events (UPE) to ensure the safety of U.S. Air Force aircrew, May 21, 2019. A UPE occurs when aircrew experience symptoms that can result from a variety of factors, including hypoxia [oxygen deprivation], hypocapnia [low carbon dioxide levels in the blood], hypercapnia [elevated carbon dioxide levels in the blood], or disorientation. These symptoms can hinder pilots' ability to fly safely and effectively. (U.S. Air Force video by Ryan Law)
