Supporting FEMA in combating COVID-19

"I want to assure the 3D Medical Command Deployment Support Soldiers, civilians and their families that we will take all necessary measures to protect our people and win this fight," states Maj. Gen. Joe Robinson, commanding general.

"We mobilized critical medical support by taking existing Army units and creating 85 Soldier Urban Augmentation Medical Task Forces across the United States," Robinson says. "Our folks will align with federal sister military services and federal partners to assist as necessary."

"I can't say how long we'll be called upon to support this mission, but the Army Reserve is designed for flexibility and well-suited for providing military support to FEMA in combating COVID-19."

3d Medical Command (Deployment Support) answers the nation's call with sending several Urban Augmentation Medical Task Forces (UAMTF) to assist FEMA with COVID-19 support efforts.

"Never in the history of the United States military has medical been the warfighter, but we are the warfighter," says 3d MCDS Commanding General Maj. Gen. Joe D. Robinson. "We are the tip of the spear."

Soldiers within the 3d MCDS were mobilized within one week and will be sent to various areas as apart of a non-doctrinal unit, working within uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments.

3rd Medical Command Deployment Support is a senior deployable medical command and control headquarters, providing support to U.S. Army Africa and U.S. Army Central areas of operation. The division provides support and technical supervision for more than 7,500 soldiers and civilians located in 21 states and Puerto Rico to prepare and provide trained soldiers and units to conduct missions in the most capable, combat ready and lethal U.S. Army Reserve force in American history. Capabilities include health care specialists, X-ray technicians, ophthalmology, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, dentists, surgeons, veterinarians, and biomedical equipment specialists.
