U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Cooper Strand, platoon commander for Heavy Equipment Operations Platoon, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group, participates in an interview during a bilateral heavy equipment field exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 1, 2021. The FEX increased 9th ESB's interoperability with Soldiers from 15th Brigade, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. 3d MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward-deployed combat unit that serves as III Marine Expeditionary Force’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
