The functions of WSF-M, replacing legacy DMSP constellation
Space Systems Command
Feb. 15, 2024 | 0:53
Space Systems Command’s Space-Based Environmental Monitoring’s (SBEM) mission is to deliver environmental and tactical intelligence to the warfighter. SSC is on-path to deliver the next generation of SBEM on-orbit capabilities that will replace the legacy Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) constellation prior to its expected end of life in FY26. Weather System Follow-on – Microwave (WSF-M) Space Vehicle-1 will replace DMSP’s microwave capabilities and address sea surface condition requirements. WSF-M represents the next-generation operational environmental satellite system for the Department of Defense and will enable the production of enhanced weather prediction and analysis capabilities for joint warfighters conducting mission planning and operations globally.
